Monks Shut Out Wheelock

Standish, ME - With a 3-0 shut-out victory over Wheelock College (6-10) on Sunday, the SJC women's soccer team improves to 9-6 on the season. Sophomore Heather Stanger (Rockport, MA) notched two goals for St. Joe's.

The Monks struck quickly as FY Brianna Jordan (Scarborough, ME) took a cross, beat her defender and drilled her first intercollegiate goal just fifty-seven seconds into the match.

After almost thirty minutes of even play, St. Joe's threatened again as Stanger almost netted the deflection of a shot by senior Karla Emerson (East Vassalboro, ME), but keeper Alyce Jordan (Weymouth, MA) made the save for Wheelock. St. Joe's held a 1-0 lead at the break.

In the 60th minute, Stanger scored on a cross from the right to put the Monks up 2-0. Junior Allison Walton (Meredith, NH) sent the pass in from the 20 and Stanger's shot went in off the cross bar.

After a foul near the 18 gave Wheelock their best scoring opportunity of the day, Wildcat senior Jenna Wass (Auburn, MA) put a shot slightly wide of the net.

Stanger scored her second goal of the game, fourth of the season, in the 83rd minute as she converted a cross from sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) to put the Monks up 3-0.

First-year Shannon Northrup (Westbrook, ME) had a save in the win and Jordan had 6 saves for Wheelock.

The Monks travel to Endicott College on Wednesday, October 25th for a 7 PM match.
