Hard Luck Monks Fall to Beavers, 2-0

FARMINGTON, ME - Saint Joseph's (8-4-2, 7-0-2) lost, 2-0, to University of Maine-Farmington (7-8-1, 3-2-1 NAC) in non-conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon. For the second game in a row the Monks dominated in attempts - St. Joe's held a 22-7 advantage over the Beavers in the losing effort - but UMF scored in the 10th and 75th minutes to gain the result.

The Monks outshot visiting Johnson & Wales on Saturday, 22-3, but were unable to convert on a myriad of excellent opportunities and were forced to settle for a scoreless tie after 110 minutes of play. The luckless Monks have steered 22 shots on goal in the last two games without a score.

Katie Cray '11 (Richmond, ME) opened the scoring for the Beavers with an unassisted tally at the 9:20 mark on a rebound off her own attempt that was stopped by Katye Mayo '10 (Fairfield, ME). Melissa St. Amand '10 (Windsor, ME) capped the game scoring at 74:09 on a penalty kick attempt.

Elizabeth Theberge '11 (Danvers, MA) recorded seven shots, three on goal, and Jessica Needham '11 (East Bridgewater, MA) placed four of her five attempts on net in the loss. Both players had great chances, as Theberge rang a bid off the crossbar just 1:33 into the game and a shot from Needham found the post in the 44th minute.

Ashley Holshouser '10 (Berwick, ME) and McKell Barnes '11 (Durham, ME) split time in net for the Beavers and recorded three and eight saves, respectively. Mayo made three saves in goal for St. Joe's.

Saint Joseph's will play host to GNAC rival Suffolk University (3-7-2, 0-7-2 GNAC) on Tuesday at 3:00 PM while Farmington will play at Husson on Saturday at 1:00 PM to close out their regular season schedule.
