Blue Jays Best Monks, 3-0

WEST HARTFORD, CT – University of Saint Joseph (6-1, 4-0 GNAC) blanked Saint Joseph's College (3-2, 0-2 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon. Monks junior goalkeeper Jaci Lorenzen (Windham, Maine) made five saves in a losing effort.

University of Saint Joseph jumped out to a quick start, scoring twice in the first 7:13 or play and netted the game's final goal in the 33rd minute to remain undefeated in conference contests. Freshman Sara Barnick (Watertown, Conn.) scored two goals for the host Blue Jays while teammate Patricia Nolan (Portland, Conn.) added another to account for the 3-0 triumph.

Barnick scored her first goal of the game just 1:53 seconds in. Nicole Mendelson (Southbury, Conn.) made a corner kick and Nolan, in the goalmouth, deflected it to Barnick, who drilled it home. Nolan followed at 7:13 when she scored from eight yards, blasting in a cross from Katie Mirabella (Seymour, Conn.).

The goal was Nolan's third of the season and the 34th in her career, which tied the Saint Joseph school record for career goals. Barnick concluded the scoring with her team-leading seventh goal of the season, an unassisted tally at 32:16.

Monks sophomore Danielle Daigle (Dayton, Maine) led all players with five shots on goal, but her efforts proved fruitless as Blue Jays freshman goalkeeper Melissa Dodge (Watertown, Conn.), who made 11 saves for her fourth consecutive shutout, was up to the task on all five bids.

Dodge has not allowed a goal in her last 430 minutes and leads the GNAC with a .969 save percentage and a 0.22 goals against average.

For University of Saint Joseph, the win over St. Joe's was the first in the six-year history of the series. The Monks are now 1-3-2 in contests versus the Blue Jays.

Both sides host GNAC contests this Saturday, when Saint Joseph's hosts Emerson College at 2:30 PM and University of Saint Joseph faces off against Albertus Magnus College at 1:00 PM.
