Harris, DaGraca Headline Women’s Soccer Conference Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The 2016 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Soccer postseason accolades have been announced and six members of the Saint Joseph's College team have been honored.

Headlining the group is the duo of Head Coach Jenelle Harris and sophomore forward Haley DaGraca (Saco, Maine) after being selected as the GNAC Coach and Offensive Player of the Year, respectively.

DaGraca also earned First Team All-GNAC honors while juniors Sarah Comtois (Lowell, Mass.) and Emily DeLuca (Gorham, Maine) have been listed on the Second Team and senior Desiree Parent (Westborough, Mass.) and junior Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.) have claimed Third Team accolades.

Jenelle Harris collects her second GNAC Coach of the Year award in four years as the Monks' skipper guided the 2016 side to a 10-7-3 overall record with a 6-2-3 mark in conference play en route to earning the #4 seed in the GNAC Tournament. Saint Joseph's was 9-10-0 with a 6-5 record in GNAC games in 2015 and was picked to finish seventh in the 2016 GNAC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll. This fall, the Monks defeated #5 Simmons College, 3-1, in a conference quarterfinal, a victory that counted as the program's first postseason triumph since the 2009 campaign.

Haley DaGraca becomes the first Saint Joseph's player to garner GNAC Offensive Player of the Year honors after leading the team – by wide margins, despite missing two games – in goals (21), points (45), shots (90), and game-winning goals (5) as a sophomore. The two-time First Team All-GNAC honoree tied for the conference lead in goals, ranked second in points, and third in game-clinchers and now ranks second in SJC program history in single-season goals, points, shots, and winners. DaGraca accounted for 49% (21/43) of the Monks' scoring this fall and heads into her junior campaign with 33 goals and 72 total points in 36 NCAA contests.

Sarah Comtois claims the first All-Conference award of her career after ranking second on the side in goals (7), assists (5), and points (19) – all career-highs - as a junior midfielder. For the second-consecutive season, the junior captain played and started in all of the Monks' games while splitting time between the DCM and ACM positions and showed a knack for scoring in pressure situations. An aggressive and strong, yet also composed, player, Comtois is a key player in the heart of the pitch for the Monks.

Emily DeLuca also collects her first All-GNAC honor after dishing out five assists and leading the team in corner kick attempts (16) as a junior captain. A shutdown defender, DeLuca was often tasked with blanketing the opponents' top offensive threats and was a key cog for a defense that racked up six shutouts and a 1.88 goals against average. Also a member of the SJC women's basketball team, DeLuca is among the best athletes in the conference and rarely comes off the field.

Desiree Parent earns her first All-GNAC nod after tallying three goals and two assists for eight total points in 16 games this fall. The senior midfielder battled through injuries throughout her final NCAA campaign and her lack of presence was certainly felt when she was sidelined, as the Monks count on her to play important roles in both defending and initiating the attack. Also a two-year team captain, Parent capped her career with 14 goals and seven assists for 35 total points with five game-winners in 69 games.

Brooke Troup earns Third Team All-GNAC accolades for the second time in her career after posting a 1.63 goals against average with a 10-6-3 record and three shutouts along with a .782 save percentage in 1654 minutes of play. She ranked third in the conference in minutes and victories, fifth in goals against average, and eighth in saves (93) and goals allowed (30) and was chosen as the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week on September 25th.

GNAC RELEASE:

WINTHROP, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College of Maine sophomore Haley DaGraca has been named the 2016 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year, as voted upon by the league's 12 head coaches.

The league office also announced its All-Conference selections and other major award winners on Monday, with seven-time reigning GNAC champion Lasell College and Johnson & Wales University both landing seven student-athletes apiece on the three All-Conference Teams. For the complete list of All-Conference selections, please see below.

JWU senior back Nadine Simpson and Lasell senior back Mack Kingman were voted the Co-Defensive Players of the Year, while JWU freshman Colleen Lynch was named both the 2016 GNAC Rookie of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year. Saint Joseph's of Maine head coach Jenelle Harris was selected as the GNAC Coach of the Year, per a vote by her peers.

DaGraca earned Offensive Player of the Year and First Team accolades after finishing second in the GNAC in points (45) on 21 goals and three assists for the Monks, who earned the No. 4 seed in the GNAC Tournament.

Simpson was the lynchpin for the JWU backline in front of Lynch, as JWU allowed just three goals in-conference, with Lynch led the GNAC in save percentage (.877), goals-against average (0.54) and goals against (10).

Kingman, along with teammate and fellow First Team selection Erika Badger, limited GNAC opponents to just six goals, while allowing a league-low 14 goals overall on the year.

Lasell senior and last fall's GNAC Player of the Year Megan Cullen, who scored the game-winner in Saturday's 2-1 win for the Lasers in the GNAC title game, was a First Team selection. Cullen tied DaGraca for the GNAC-lead in goals (21) and was first in points (47). Meanwhile JWU junior Kyra Selner was also a First Team honoree at forward, as she had 17 goals and six helpers for 40 points.

At midfield, Albertus Magnus College junior Angelina Piccirillo, Lasell sophomore Carly Zdanek, Simmons College junior Kashka Gammon and Suffolk junior Jessica Martin earned All-Conference First Team honors.

Piccirillo had six goals and two assists, while Zdanek had 10 goals and a GNAC-high nine assists for the Lasers. Martin was fifth in the GNAC in assists (16) and tied for second with Gammon among league leaders with seven assists.

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region.
