PAXTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (2-4-0, 2-0-0 GNAC) toppled Anna Maria College (3-3-0, 0-2-0 GNAC), 5-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks kicked off the scoring in the 13th minute of play when junior Darcy Wright (Salem, N.H.) launched a long free kick into the back of the net. Senior Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine) doubled the SJC advantage off an Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone (Winthrop, Maine) pass.
Wilson-Falcone capped the first half scoring at the 34:05 mark with her second goal of the season to make it a 3-0 game heading into intermission. Michaud opened the second stanza scoresheet in the 50th minute with a marker off a Sama Colatruglio (Mahopac, N.Y.) and junior Tatum Hancock (Damariscotta, Maine) hit pay dirt off a Lauren McKee (Littleton, N.H.) corner kick at the 82:44 mark.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (13-10), shots on goal (9-7), and corner kicks (11-3) in the victory.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC junior Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) notched the first shutout of her college career after making seven saves while Anna Maria goalie Alice Yokabaskas recorded three saves in the losing effort.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 11-0-0 all-time versus Anna Maria College.
