CHICOPEE, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (5-6-0, 5-2-0 GNAC) scored a pair of goals in each half to defeat Elms College (3-6-3, 2-4-2 GNAC), 4-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer matchup on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Both teams had scoring chances early, but freshman Lelia Weir (Bar Harbor, Maine) put the Monks on the board with her first collegiate goal at the 18:49 mark. Saint Joseph's made it a 2-0 game just 21 seconds later when senior Nikki Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) netted the first goal of her NCAA career on an Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone (Winthrop, Maine) assist.

Wilson-Falcone knocked home her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 66th minute and freshman Paige Sawyer (Ellsworth, Maine) closed out the scoring ledger with a penalty-kick marker for her first college strike in the 85th minute.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (13-8), shots on goal (7-4), and corner kicks (4-2) in the GNAC triumph.

THE KEEPERS:

Junior Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) made three saves before being lifted in the 74th minute in favor of freshman Manuela Mejia (Winthrop, Mass.), who turned away the lone shot she faced in 16-plus minutes of relief.

Elms goalie Gianna Liquori made three saves in the losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

The Monks are now 3-0-0 all-time versus Elms College and have outscored the Blazers by an 11-1 collective margin in the three meetings.

Saint Joseph's will play at Lasell University on Saturday in a GNAC game set to begin at 12:00 PM.
