Monks & Falcons Duel to 1-1 Deadlock

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Saint Joseph's College (6-7-1, 6-3-1 GNAC) and Albertus Magnus College (6-4-4, 4-3-3 GNAC) dueled to a 1-1 tie in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Falcons claimed a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when Erina Ismaili netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season. The Monks tied the game over 50 minutes later when senior Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine) sidestepped a defender and delivered a shot to the lower right corner.

Saint Joseph's seemingly tied the game in the 53rd minute when junior Darcy Wright (Salem, N.H.) belted a shot from just outside the box to the top right corner of the net, but the play was whistled offside.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (26-10) and shots on goal (11-6) while Albertus Magnus posted a 3-2 edge in corner kicks on the afternoon.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) turned away five shots in the stalemate while Albertus Magnus goalie Amy Stevens made 10 saves for the hosts.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the tie the Monks are now 10-4-2 all-time versus Albertus Magnus College and extend an undefeated streak versus the Falcons to six games.

For St. Joe's, the tie score is the team's first since SJC and University of Saint Joseph played to a 2-2 stalemate in the opening round of the 2019 GNAC Tournament (11/2/19).

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's will play at Bates College on Monday in a non-conference tilt set to begin at 7:00 PM.
