Saint Joseph's Earns United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – United Soccer Coaches has announced the 2022 College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award recipients and the Saint Joseph's College women's soccer team is one of 117 collegiate programs across the country to be recognized for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game.

Led by 10th-year Head Coach Jenelle Harris, the Monks earned a "Silver Award" after being flagged for six yellow cards in 20 contests during the 2022 campaign. Saint Joseph's earned "Bronze Award" honors in 2018.

The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award is given to United Soccer Coaches members at four levels. Teams honored at the platinum level went an entire season without a player or coach receiving a yellow card or red card. Teams honored at the gold (1-10%), silver (11-30%) and bronze (31-50%) levels are based on a percentage calculated by the total number of cards received by players/coaches divided by the team's total number of games played (i.e., 5 cards divided by 20 games played is 0.25 or 25%, which qualifies for a Silver Award).

One intercollegiate team – the Thomas College women's program - received the United Soccer Coaches Platinum Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award for completing the entire 2022 season without receiving either a yellow or red card.

Eleven teams were recipients of the Gold Award, which is given to teams with a percentage of cards ranging from 1-10%. A total of 50 teams claimed the Silver Award, which is given to teams that accumulate a percentage of cards ranging from 11-30%, while the Bronze Award went to 55 teams, which is presented to teams that accumulate a percentage of cards ranging from 31-50%.

Saint Joseph's – along with Simmons University – is one of just two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer programs to earn a 2022 United Soccer Coaches "Silver Award". Regis College claimed "Bronze Award" status this season.

Under the watch of Coach Harris this fall, the Monks posted a 10-9-1 overall record with a 9-3-1 mark in conference play en route to securing the #4 seed in the GNAC Tournament. St. Joe's opened the postseason with a decisive 3-1 quarterfinal victory over #5 Regis College on October 29th before being clipped in the semifinal round, 1-0, by top-seeded Johnson & Wales University, which proceeded to win the GNAC Championship for the third-consecutive season.
