Coach Bill Cosentino Takes on New Role as Senior Director of Recruiting and Undergraduate Admissions

STANDISH, Maine - After an illustrious 8-year tenure as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Success and Head Men's Lacrosse Coach, Coach Bill Cosentino will be transitioning to a new role at Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Effective immediately, he will serve as the Senior Director of Recruiting and Undergraduate Admissions.

Cosentino's journey with the Monks began in the fall of 2016 when he took over the men's lacrosse program. He inherited a team that struggled in previous seasons, but through his dedication and strategic approach, he led the team to remarkable growth and success.

During his tenure as head coach, Cosentino accumulated a career record of 75-72 (.510). His leadership extended beyond the field, as he cultivated a culture of academic excellence and athletic achievement. Under his guidance, 72 student-athletes earned All-Academic honors, while 34 received All-Conference accolades and 8 were recognized as All-Region athletes.

Cosentino's impact on the men's lacrosse program was undeniable. In his first year, the team saw significant improvement, narrowly missing the conference tournament. The upward trajectory continued, culminating in record-breaking seasons. The Monks set new benchmarks for victories, winning percentage, and offensive production under his leadership. This past season, Cosentino lead the Monks to a 10-8 overall record with a 7-3 mark in conference play. As the #3 seed in the GNAC North Division, St. Joe's played at Dean College, the #2 seed in the South Division, in a conference quarterfinal on April 27th and suffered a hard fought 14-12 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs.

In addition to his coaching duties, Cosentino spearheaded the Monks' Leadership Academy, alongside Coach Chris Woodside, emphasizing the development of leadership skills among student-athletes. His holistic approach to coaching extended to off-field initiatives aimed at fostering personal and professional growth.

Reflecting on his time with the Monks, Cosentino expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the lacrosse program and contribute to the college community. ""Serving as the head mens lacrosse coach for the last 8 years has been a dream and I'm grateful to have worked with and learn from so many incredible coaches in the department.  The young men that I have been fortunate enough to coach in our program have had a huge impact on my life and I will miss going to battle each Spring." said Cosentino. "I have been lucky enough to have had amazing, committed coaches on my staff and I thank them for all of their hard work and contributions to the program.  Stepping away from coaching full time will be tough, but I'm excited for the challenges of my new role in admissions and to expand my influence on the SJC community." Coach Cosentino adds "I want to thank Will Rothermel for his support during this process and the faith he had in me as assistant AD and head mens lacrosse coach. I truly believe the mens lacrosse program is in a great place and I'm excited to still be here at SJC to watch the team continue to have success!"."

AVP Chief Athletics & Recreation Officer Will Rothermel commented on Cosentino transition out of the Monks Athletics Department. "It is truly bittersweet to lose such a great mentor, coach, teammate and leader from our athletics department, but I am super excited for Bill to enter this next phase of his career. I am also excited for Saint Joseph's College as Bill will be able to continue his tremendous work of bringing high-level students to Standish in this new role" said Rothermel. "Bill has not only left a lasting impression on the men's lacrosse program and our athletics department, he has left an indelible mark on the lives of young men and women he has coached and mentored over the last eight years. Thank you, Coach Cosentino!"

Saint Joseph's College of Maine looks forward to the continued contributions of Coach Cosentino in his new capacity, furthering the mission of the institution and enhancing the college experience for all students.

The search for the next Saint Joseph's College Men's Lacrosse Coach will start immediately.
