Saint Joseph's Starts off Strong

CAPE CORAL, FL - The Saint Joseph's College (2-0) Women's softball team earned its second win today at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Cape Coral Florida. The Lady Monks survived a 5 run fifth inning and defeated Emmanuel College 11-8.

Senior tri-captain Helene Liaci (Clifton, NJ) led St. Joe's, going 3 for 4 with a walk, a home run, a triple and 3 runs scored. First year Megan Farrell
( Abington, MA ) recorded a single, a double, and 1 run scored in her collegiate debut. First year Deb Drown (Gorham, ME) chipped in with a walk, a single, and 2 runs scored.

Saint Joe's erupted in the 4th inning, scoring 8 runs. Liaci started the inning with a walk and also hit a home run later in the inning. Emmanuel scored 5 runs in the fifth inning and made it 8-5. The Lady Monks finished the 5th inning scoring two runs to stretch the lead to 10-5.

Emmanuel (0-3) picked up 3 more runs in the 6th inning as four players singled. Liaci hit a triple in the 6 th to give St. Joe's an 11-8 lead.
