Bouchard Belts Two Homers, Monks Split Pair

CLERMONT, Fla. – Sophomore catcher Chantelle Bouchard (Biddeford, Maine) was 3-4 with two home runs and six RBI to help Saint Joseph's College (2-6) defeat Mount Saint Mary College (0-7) in THE Spring Games action, 8-3, on Thursday. The Monks capped the day with a 6-5 setback at the hands of Carroll University (6-8).

SAINT JOSEPH'S 8, MOUNT SAINT MARY 3:

Bouchard kicked off the scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the first and the 2-0 lead remained until the Knights plated a run on two hits in the bottom of the third.

Bouchard struck again in the top of the fifth, as Mollie Verreault (Scarborough, Maine) and Sadie Tirrell (Naples, Maine) set the table with bunt singles and the sophomore catcher cleaned up with a deep jack to left center, lifting her squad to a 5-1 advantage.

Mount Saint Mary tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth, but Saint Joseph's countered with two runs in the sixth when sophomore Charlotte Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine) walked and scored on a passed ball and Bouchard roped an RBI double to left.

The Monks and Knights swapped runs in the seventh to account for the 8-3 final score.

IN THE CIRCLE:

  • Junior Madison Pelletier (New Gloucester, Mass.) went the distance and earned the victory after allowing three runs on six hits and four walks with three strikeouts
  • Mount Saint Mary starter Bridget Morris suffered the loss after yielding seven runs on nine hits and five walks with five K's in six innings

AT THE BAT:

  • Bouchard was 3-4 with two runs, a double, two home runs, and six RBI and is just the seventh SJC player in the last 20 years to belt a pair of homers in the same game
  • Verreault went 2-3 with three runs, two stolen bases, and a pair of walks
  • Cloutier added two hits with a run scored in three at-bats
  • For the Knights, Laura Dentato was 2-3 with two doubles and three RBI

CARROLL 6, SAINT JOSEPH'S 5:

After a scoreless first inning, Carroll plated a single run in six consecutive innings to hold off the Monks, who scored twice in the fourth and fifth frames and again in the seventh.

In the fourth, St. Joe's pushed across two runs on three hits as Tirrell and junior Abby Carpenter (Bath, Maine) recorded RBI singles and the Monks tied the game at 4-4 when Verreault scored on an error and freshman Kryslin Stearns (Concord, N.H.) knocked in a run with a sac fly.

The Pioneers took a 5-4 lead in the sixth and added another run in the seventh to go up by two. Bouchard led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and later scored on a Tirrell base hit to close out the scoring.

IN THE CIRCLE:

  • Senior starter Lydia Goodnough (Kennebunkport, Maine) suffered the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 5.2 innings
  • Pelletier yielded an unearned run on four hits in 1.1 innings of relief
  • For Carroll, Alyssa Cebreros earned the win after allowing a run on two hits in two innings of relief and starter Andrea Kuhne, who was removed and later finished the game, picked up the save

AT THE BAT:

  • Tirrell was 2-4 with two RBI
  • Bouchard went 1-3 with a double and two runs scored
  • For the Pioneers, Bridget Rath went 4-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI and Kiana Johnson was 3-4 with two RBI

Saint Joseph's closes out the 2024 spring trip tomorrow with games versus Lakeland (10:00 AM) and Rutgers-Camden (2:45 PM).
