St. Joe's Sweeps Husson

STANDISH, ME - The St. Joe's sophomores took control in the fourth inning after three and a half scoreless innings. Tessa Grindle (Brooksville, ME) drove in two runs with a single after Jamie Morrison (Auburn, ME) singled with two outs and Sarah Martin (Athol, MA) earned a walk.

Husson answered back in the sixth inning as sophomore Nicole Manzo reached on an error and freshman Shawna Bell hit a double to score Manzo. Senior Nicole Munroe singled and Bell scored to even the score at 2-2.

In the seventh inning, sophomore Amanda Roy (Winslow, ME) reached on an error and freshman Deb Drown (Gorham, ME) single and moved Roy to third base. Junior Leanne Morton (Gorham, ME) hit the game winning single to score Roy.

Senior captain Kahler Dowling (Augusta, ME) was the winning pitcher in game one, striking out 5 batters; Deb Drown went 2 for 4.

Game Two

Husson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two as St. Joe's committed 3 errors and 2 wild pitches. The bats came alive for St. Joe's in the bottom of the third as they scored 5 runs and registered six hits.

Morrison hit a double and sophomore Jaime Daugherty (Bass Harbor, ME) walked. Freshman Amanda Coburn (Salem, ME) came in to pinch run for Morrison and Drown singled. Morton doubled and drove in three runs. Senior captain Helene Liaci (Clifton, NJ) hit a triple and scored Morton and freshman Megan Farrell (Abington, MA) drove Liaci in with a single. Dowling singled and the inning ended with the score 5-2 as Morrison, up for a second time in the inning, flew out to right field.

St. Joe's added to the lead in the fourth inning as Roy and Drown singled and senior Darcy Lee (Windham, ME) drove Roy in with a single to make it 6-2. In the fifth inning, Dowling and Morrison singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Roy singled and drove in two more runs to give St. Joe's a commanding 8-2 lead.

Freshman Megan Farrell hit a 2 RBI double in the sixth inning to score Drown who had singled and Morton who had reached on a walk. This hit ended the game at 10-2 due to the eight-run rule.
