Waltham, MA- The SJC softball squad dropped a pair
of games at Brandeis on Friday. In a 9-0 game one decision, the
Monks struggled to get their offense going while the Judges
recorded three home runs. JR Megan Farrell
(Abington, MA) led St. Joe's with two hits while FY Anna
Willis (Gorham, ME), SO Aly Ludwig
(Waldoboro, ME) and FY Liddy van der Linden
(Worcester, MA) each added a hit apiece.
The Monks jumped out to an early lead but fell 12-2 in game two.
Willis and Ludwig reached on bunts and SO Gabrielle
Burrola (Gallup, NM) moved the runners with a sacrifice
bunt. Farrell hit into a fielder's choice to plate Willis and give
St. Joe's their only lead of the game.
Brandeis responded in the bottom of the second, sending 11 hitters
to the plate and scoring seven runs. Streilein plated two runs in
the inning with a one-out single. McWilliams went deep in the third
to give the hosts an 8-1 lead.
Farrell answered in the top of the fourth with a huge blast to
left-center field that actually hit the wheels of a passing MBTA
commuter rail train. The Judges put the contest away in the bottom
of the inning when McWilliams hit her second homer of the day, a
grand slam to almost the identical spot as her first blast.
SR Tessa Grindle (Brooksville, ME), Ludwig and
Willis all finished with one hit apiece for the Monks.
