Six in a Row for Softball after Sweep of Farmington

Farmington, ME - Saint Joseph's College improved to 15-16 overall with 6-3 and 5-3 wins over Maine-Farmington. FY Kayla Soucy (Colebrook, NH) helped the Monks with six hits, as the St. Joe's bats stayed hot for a total of 25 hits.

In game one, JR Megan Farrell (Abington, MA) singled home FY Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Farmington tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

Farmington plated two runs in the third for a 3-1 advantage that held up until the sixth when the Monks scored three runs on four hits to regain the lead. Singles by SO Gabrielle Burrola (Gallup, NM), Farrell, and FY Liddy van der Linden (Worcester, MA) ignited the SJC offense.

St. Joe's extended the lead with two runs in the seventh to secure the win.

Burrola allowed just three hits, struck out eight and went 2/4 at the plate. Soucy was 3/3 while Farrell, Willis and van der Linden were 2/4.

SR Colleen Delahanty (Warren, ME) picked up her fifth win of the season and struck out five in game two.

The Monks scored runs in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. The scoring resumed in the fifth as St. Joe's added two more runs to go up 5-0. SR Tessa Grindle (Brooksville, ME) scored off of an RBI-single by Willis and SO Aly Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) went home on a passed ball.

Farmington got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the frame and cut the lead to 5-3 with another run in the sixth, but would come no closer as the Monk defense closed out the game.

Soucy went 3/4, Willis was 3/5, and Ludwig and Grindle had two hits apiece.

The Monks return to action on Sunday, 4/29 at 10 AM as they host Newbury College in the D3 Independents Northeast Regional Tournament. Green Mountain takes on Maine-Presque Isle at noon.
