STANDISH, ME - St. Joe's swept a conference
doubleheader with Mount Ida College on Monday, winning the first
game 2-1 and the second 4-0. FY Kiera
Walsh (Benton, ME) scattered 3 hits and struck out
4 in game one to increase her season record to 14-5. FY
Renee Leach ( Shapleigh, ME) was
3-4 to lead all SJC hitters in game two and starting pitcher SO
Christy Wezowicz (Granville, MA)
notched her 10th win of the season in the victory.
Senior captain Megan Farrell
(Abington, MA) played in the final home contests of her illustrious
career and was honored with a ceremony prior to the first pitch of
the opener.
GAME ONE
Kerri Kwasek (Framingham, MA) provided the Mustangs
with their only lead of the day with an RBI single in the top of
the fourth that scored Katie Lorenco (Mattapoisett, MA), who had
earlier reached with a single, to give her team a 1-0 lead.
St. Joe's answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth
to gain a 2-1 lead. FY Ellen Neff
(Chester, VT) singled to send home Megan
Farrell and FY Cat
DeSimone (Waterboro, ME), who reached with a
double and notched two hits in the win, to provide starter
Kiera Walsh all the run support
she would require to pick up her 14th win of the year.
GAME
TWO
The nightcap contest was tied 0-0 until the Lady Monks put together
an inning to score a run and take a 1-0 lead. JR
Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) led
off with a single, was sacrificed to second with a bunt and scored
on a Renee Leach single.
Farrell and SO Jillian
Kimball (Albany TWP, ME) each notched RBI singles
in the 4th to give the Royal Blue a 3-0 lead and JR
Liz Jordan (Sandwich, ME) drove
home Ludwig with a single in the 6th to wrap up
the game scoring with St. Joe's on top 4-0.
SJC starter Christy Wezowicz
scattered 9 hits and whiffed 2 batters in six innings of work and
Alysn Ludwig made her first
appearance in the circle this season in the seventh to close out
the game.
For Mount Ida, Becky Tisbert (Cambridge, VT) was 3-4 and Kris
Duplisea (Chicopee, MA) and Kerri Kwasek both registered two hits
in the losing effort.
With the sweep, St. Joe's earns the #3 seed in the conference
playoffs and will play the winner of the Suffolk University-Rivier
College preliminary round contest on Friday, April 25th on Lasell
College's home field. The game will begin at 4:00 PM.
