Ludwig Honored by New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association

STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College junior outfielder Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME/Medomak Valley HS) has been named to the Division III New England All-Star Honorable Mention team by the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association.

Ludwig, a 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference First Team honoree, led the Lady Monks with 47 runs, 27 stolen bases and 59 hits during the season and was third on the team with a .381 (59-155) batting average. Her 47 runs led the GNAC and ranks as the third-highest total in St. Joe's softball history. Ludwig's single season swipe count ranked second in the GNAC and second in SJC history and her career total of 49 steals is just eight shy of the St. Joe's all-time mark of 57 held by Kelli Glantz (1996-97). Ludwig was caught stealing just one time during the season.

The Lady Monks finished the 2008 season with a 26-17 record, the fifth-highest win total in program history and the most victories in six seasons as an NCAA member. The win total is the most since 2002, the program's last year in the NAIA, when the team achieved a 27-18 record and went on to win the NAIA New England Regional Tournament. After five years of holding NCAA Division III Independent status, the Lady Monks posted a 19-7 record in the team's first season as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, which was good for a third-place regular season finish.

Ludwig is a two-sport standout at Saint Joseph's and was a captain on the 2007-08 women's basketball team that achieved a 15-10 record and a trip to the GNAC playoffs in the squad's first season as a league member. Ironically, Ludwig also led the hoops team in steals for the season.
