BOSTON, MA - The Lady Monks earned a conference split with Simmons
College on Tuesday afternoon, 4-2 and 0-8. Freshman pitcher
Kiera Walsh (Benton, ME) earned
the victory in game one. St. Joe's is now 13-9 overall and 8-4 in
GNAC play.
GAME
ONE
The Lady Monks secured a 1-0 lead in the first inning when JR
Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME)
reached with a walk and scored on a misplayed ball hit by SO
Jillian Kimball (Albany TWP,
ME).
Simmons retaliated with back-to-back solo home runs from SR Ann
Talarico (Ware, MA) and FY Dannie Szabo (White Plains, NY) with two
out in the bottom of the first to take a two run lead.
St. Joe's rallied for two runs in the top of the second to regain a
one-run advantage, 3-2. Alysn
Ludwig registered both RBI's in the inning with a
two-out single that scored SO Kayla
Soucy (Colebrook, NH) and FY Cat
DeSimone (Waterboro, ME).
The Royal Blue added an insurance run in the 6th inning when SR
Megan Farrell (Abington, MA)
scored on a Kayla Soucy
single.
After allowing two long balls in the first inning,
Kiera Walsh cooled the Sharks'
bats to allow the SJC offense to pull out the victory. In seven
innings of work, Walsh allowed 6 hits and one walk
while striking out 7 to earn her ninth victory of the season.
Kayla Soucy was 2-2 with a run
and an RBI, Alysn Ludwig went 1-3
with 2 RBI's and Cat DeSimone was
1-3 with a run scored for the Lady Monks.

GAME
TWO
The Lady Monks offense was stymied by the pitching of Simmons
starter SO Sammi Letizio (Windham, NH) in game two. The ace pitcher
was flawless through 4 2/3 innings of work before SJC senior
designated hitter Megan Farrell
recorded a single to break up the perfect game bid.
The Simmons offense provided Letizio with plenty of run support as
the Sharks scored once in the first inning, four times in the
second and tallied 2 more in the 4th to take a 7-0 lead. The Sharks
would score another run in the 5th inning to induce the mercy
rule.
Lady Monks starting pitcher SO Christy
Wezowicz (Granville, MA) allowed 8 hits, 5 walks
and 7 earned runs while striking out 4 to take the loss.
For the Sharks, Letizio allowed just one hit and no walks while
striking out 5 to improve her season record to 11-2. Ann Talarico
was 3-3 with 2 runs and 3 RBI's and FY Annie Thompson (Pacific
Palisades, CA) was 2-3 with 2 runs scored in the victory.
