WEST HARTFORD, CT - St. Joe's (9-7, 4-2 GNAC) earned a split with GNAC opponent Saint Joseph College (CT) (2-2, 0-2 GNAC) on Sunday, losing game one 6-3 and winning the nightcap 6-1. FY pitcher Kiera Walsh (Benton, ME) allowed 4 hits and one earned run with 5 strikeouts to earn the win in in game two. JR Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) and FY Alyssa Dunn (Standish, ME) combined for 11 hits in the two game set. The games were originally scheduled to be played in Standish, but due to poor field conditions the Lady Monks were forced to play the "home" games on the road.
GAME
ONE
Alysn Ludwig led off the bottom
of the first inning with a single and later scored on an
Alyssa Dunn base knock to give
the Lady Monks an early 1-0 advantage.
The Blue Jays took the lead in the top of the second when starting
pitcher FY Sara Dudley (Dover, NH) helped her own cause with a
three-run home run. Saint Joseph increased their lead to 5-1 in the
third inning when JR Katie Gaudiosi (Southington, CT) and JR Monica
Lynch (Ludlow, MA) collected RBI's.
The Lady Monks rallied to score two runs in the fifth inning when
JR Liz Jordan (Sandwich, MA) and
SO Anna Willis (Gorham, ME)
scored runs off of a SO Jillian
Kimball (Albany TWP, ME) sacrifice fly and a SO
Liddy van der Linden (Worcester,
MA) single. St. Joe's was unable to get anything going offensively
in the final two innings and St. Joseph (CT) scored an insurance
run in the top of the sixth to earn a 6-3 victory.
For the Lady Monks, Dunn and
Ludwig both collected 2 hits and SO
Christy Wezowicz (Granville, MA)
took the loss on the mound to fall to 3-4 on the season.

GAME TWO
Game two was a scoreless affair until the Lady Monks struck for
three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Anna
Willis led off the inning with a walk and was
driven in by an Alysn Ludwig
triple. Ludwig proceeded to score on a Liz
Jordan bunt single and Jordan was sent
home by a Liddy van der Linden
suicide squeeze to cap the scoring for the inning which saw St.
Joe's stake a 3-0 lead.
Willis sparked the Royal Blue offense again in the
sixth inning when she led off with a single, stole second base and
scored on a Saint Joseph (CT) error. Ludwig
singled and scored a run and Dunn singled and
registered an RBI in the inning.
St. Joe's starting pitcher Kiera
Walsh cruised through the first five innings,
allowing just one Blue Jays baserunner to reach and striking out
four. Saint Joseph (CT) would score their only run of the game in
the sixth on a Monica Lynch sac fly.
For the Lady Monks, Alyssa Dunn was 4-4 with an RBI, Alysn Ludwig
was 3-4 with 2 runs and an RBI and Anna Willis and Liz Jordan both
scored two runs. Walsh improved her season record to 6-3 with the
complete-game effort.
The Lady Monks will travel to Boston, MA on Friday 4/4 to play GNAC
foe Simmons College in a doubleheader that begins at 3:00 PM.
