STANDISH, ME - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has
announced its weekly awards and Saint Joseph's third baseman
Emily Leverone '11 (Hampton,
NH/Winnacunnet) has been named as the Player of the Week for the
second time this spring.
Leverone hit .538 (14-26) with seven runs and 13 RBI's in a 4-4
week for the Lady Monks. She was 7-8 with three RBI's in a twin
bill with Norwich on April 10th and 4-6 with four RBI's in a
doubleheader against Suffolk the following day. With two home runs
during the week, the first year player tied the program record (6)
for long balls in a single season. Kelly Premo '02 recorded six
taters in both the 2001 and 2002 campaigns.
The first-year player is enjoying a banner season for the Lady
Monks (18-10, 10-6 GNAC), hitting .564 (53-94) batting average, 24
runs and 29 RBI's through 28 games. The sophomore is well on her
way to breaking the SJC single-season record for hits (64, Kellie
Glantz, 1996) and batting average (.515, Julie MacMichael,
1992).
Leverone's first weekly honor of the season came on March 16th
after her performance during the Lady Monks' 10-game southern swing
in Fort Myers, FL.
