Grovo Selected as GNAC Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's softball second baseman Connie Grovo '14 (Limington, ME/Bonny Eagle) has been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week.

Grovo helped the Monks capture the program's first GNAC Championship by hitting .444 (12-27) with 10 runs and nine RBI last week. She was 3-5 with two runs and three RBI in a win over Norwich last Tuesday and went 3-4 with two runs, a home run and four RBI in a GNAC playoff win over Rivier on Saturday. The GNAC weekly top rookie honor is the first of her career.

As of May 5th, Grovo – a Third Team All-GNAC choice as a rookie – is hitting .374 (52-139) with 38 runs, nine doubles, three home runs and 31 RBI. Grovo has a team-high 15 sac bunts and ranks 27th in NCAA DIII Softball with 0.36 sacrifice hits per game.

Saint Joseph's (34-8, 21-3 GNAC) will host Husson University on Sunday at 1:00 PM. The NCAA Tournament pairings will be announced on Monday and the national tournament begins on Wednesday.
