Two Monks Claim 2011 Division III Softball New England All-Star Honors

STANDISH, ME – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the 2011 Division III Softball New England All-Star Teams and two Saint Joseph's players, junior outfielder Emily Leverone (Hampton, N.H.) and freshman infielder Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) have garnered First Team honors.

Leverone, a two-time Second Team All-ECAC honoree, recorded yet another outstanding season as she continued to stake her reputation as one of the most feared hitters in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) as a junior. She paced the Monks in hits (67), doubles (19), home runs (11), RBI (59) and total bases (125) last spring and led the conference in home runs, doubles, RBI and total bases as well. Following the regular season she added to her ever-growing trophy case with a First Team All-GNAC honor, the third of her career, as well as GNAC All-Tournament and NCAA Tournament All-Regional accolades.

The three-year standout goes into her final collegiate season as the Monks' all-time leader in hits (200), home runs (27), RBI (169), slugging percentage (.842) and OPS (1.362) and currently ranks second in team history in doubles (50), batting average (.480) and OBP (.520). In 130 career games, Leverone has notched 61 multiple-hit efforts and has driven in at least two runs in 49 different contests.

Also an excellent defender, Leverone did not make an error in 64 chances as the SJC center fielder last spring and shared the team's Gold Glove Award with Alyssa Dunn '11 (Standish, Maine).

Moore joins Leverone on the 2011 ECAC First Team after hitting .397 (54-136) with 35 runs, eight doubles, five home runs, 34 RBI and three stolen bases as a freshman. The Monks' primary shortstop ranked second on the club in batting average, RBI, slugging (.581) and OBP (.446) and recorded a stellar .966 fielding percentage with seven miscues in 207 chances as a rookie. One of just three first-year players to earn ECAC All-New England mention this year, she also garnered First Team All-GNAC honors last spring.

Leverone and Moore join Simmons shortstop Annie Thompson, the 2011 ECAC New England Player of the Year, and Emerson designated player Lynn Herman as the only four players from the GNAC to earn the regional honor.

Only one other player from a Maine institution, Southern Maine utility player Sarah Deroche, was listed on the 2011 ECAC teams.

Saint Joseph's recorded a fantastic 2011 campaign under 14th-year Head Coach Jamie Smyth '92 with a 37-10 record, including a 21-3 mark in conference play, en route to claiming the GNAC Championship and the subsequent berth into the NCAA Tournament – both program firsts. While playing in the NCAA Tournament Providence Regional, the Monks upset #3 Endicott College and #2 Coast Guard – ranked sixth in the country at the time – before bowing out of the tourney with losses to top-seeded Eastern Connecticut – the #9 team in the nation – and #4 Rhode Island College.
