STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's senior slugger Emily Leverone (Hampton, N.H.) is not only rewriting the SJC softball record book but the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) record book as well.
Already the owner of numerous St. Joe's hitting records, Leverone broke the GNAC career hits record with her third hit, a solo home run, in a convincing win over Emmanuel College in Boston on Thursday, April 5th. The blast gave her 229 career hits, a total that pushed her past Suffolk University infielder Jessica Ferreira '09, a three-time GNAC Player of the Year honoree.
Leverone also sits atop the GNAC career doubles list with 63 two-baggers and became the all-time GNAC-leader in RBI with a run-scoring double in the first inning of a victory over Pine Manor College at Richard W. Bailey Field on Monday. The senior captain now has 195 runs batted in over three-plus seasons, a tally that breaks another Ferreira career mark.
She is fast approaching the GNAC career home run and runs records and is on her way to breaking the NCAA DIII career doubles record as well.
Currently, Leverone owns the SJC career marks for runs (153), hits (234), doubles (63), home runs (33), RBI (195), slugging percentage (.835) and OPS (1.337). She also ranks second in career batting average (.470) and OBP (.502) and is fourth in at bats (498).
Leverone also owns the Monks' single-season records for hits (75, 2009), doubles (19, 2011), home runs (11, 2011 (tied with van der Linden)), RBI (60, 2010), batting average (.547, 2009), slugging percentage (.920, 2009), OBP (.581, 2009), and OPS (1.501).
Her impressive list of records continues with the SJC single-game marks for doubles (3) and total bases (10) and she is tied atop the game marks for most triples (2) and home runs (2).
Her outstanding career has yielded a bevy of accolades as Leverone has garnered three First Team All-GNAC honors, three ECAC All-New England awards, two Second Team All-NEISCA mentions, and an All-NFCA New England honor.
Her play has helped the Monks post a stellar 118-38 (.756) record overall, including a 75-13 (.852) mark in GNAC play during her career. Saint Joseph's has earned the #2 seed in the GNAC Tournament in each of the last three years and captured the conference championship last spring to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
