Shufelt Garners ECAC All-New England Honors

STANDISH, ME - The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) NCAA DIII New England All-Star Awards have been released and Saint Joseph's senior outfielder Danyelle Shufelt (Sutton, Vt.) has claimed First Team accolades.

Shufelt earns the regional honor after hitting .446 (78-175) with 51 runs, five doubles, five triples, 20 RBI and 22 steals in as many attempts during her final collegiate campaign. She led the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in at bats, runs and hits and capped the year ranked third in the league in stolen bases. The ECAC honor is the first regional accolade of Shufelt's outstanding career.

A two-sport athlete who also starred on the court for the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team during the winter months, Shufelt closed her collegiate career as the Monks' all-time leader in games played (176) and at bats (607) and ranks second in team history in hits (231) and runs scored (163). She started in all 176 of the Monks' contests during her career and posted a .381 batting average with 50 steals in 52 bids over four seasons.

Shufelt is the lone GNAC representative on the ECAC DIII New England First Team. Rivier University outfielder Nicole Peacock and Emerson College utility player Bianca Buono both claimed Second Team mention.

Saint Joseph's has now had at least one player earn ECAC All-Region accolades in each of the past five seasons. Emily Leverone '12 claimed ECAC honors in 2009, 2010 and 2011 while Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) collected First Team mention in 2011 and Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) was listed on the First Team in 2012.

In 2013, Saint Joseph's went 34-13 overall and 18-6 in GNAC play en route to winning the GNAC Championship for the third-consecutive season. The Monks recorded four shutout victories in the GNAC Tournament to claim an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament, where the Royal Blue fell to Springfield College, defeated Lesley College and lost to Rowan University as the #5 seed in the Babson Park Regional.
