Monks Wrap up Season with Awards Dinner

STANDISH, ME - Five awards were handed out at the Saint Joseph's College women's basketball team banquet, held on April 19. Senior guard /forward Kaylin Regula (Windham, ME) won the MVP award, and senior Danielle Somma (Gray, ME), first-year Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME), and sophomores Yoandree Pierre-Jacques (Providence, RI) and Debi Drown (Gorham, ME) were also honored.

A second team pick in the national All-Independent voting, MVP Kaylin Regula was a steady presence for the team and managed to play in every position this season.  Regula posted one of the few triple doubles in SJC women's basketball history with a 10 point, 12 rebound and 12 assist performance in this year's Independent Tournament semifinal win over St. Joseph 's of Brooklyn.

Danielle Somma won the Defensive Player of the Year award after a season dedicated to limiting the opponent's best scorers. A defensive stalwart, Somma proved she could be a threat on the offensive end as well, posting a career high 15 points against Maine Presque Isle in the D3 Independents Championship game.

Alysn Ludwig was honored as Rookie of the Year after earning 6 starts and more importantly, numerous finishes. Ludwig averaged 5 points and 5 rebounds a game this season and recorded 13 points and 10 boards in thirty-eight minutes of play in the Championship game.

Debi Drown took the Team Spirit Award and was a vocal supporter of the team on the court and on the sideline. Drown had a break-out game against Maine Presque Isle, recording 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in a regular season match-up.

Yoandree Pierre-Jacques earned the Most Improved Award in her first season on the basketball squad. Pierre-Jacques started 6 games this season and posted two double-doubles including a 14-point, 15-rebound performance against Fort Kent in her first intercollegiate start.
