Santa Cruz, CA - The SJC women's basketball team advanced to the
Championship game of the UC Santa Cruz New Year Tournament with a
73-51 win over Fisher College on Saturday. Sophomore Sasha
Bowen (Boston, MA) led the Monks with 12 points and 5
rebounds.
St. Joe's dominated the first half with solid defense, allowing the
Falcons just 14 points in the half. Up 26 at the break, the Monks
continued the attack as the lead swelled to 30 points midway
through the second half.
In addition to Bowen, two other players had double digit
perfomances; FY Carolyn Freeman (Scarborough, ME)
and junior Ashton Coutu (Danville, VT) both had
10. Sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) had
8 points and dished out a career-high 11 assists. FY Katey
Kamal (Keene, NH) provided a scoring spark, recording 8
points and FY Jaimee Brett (Otisfield,ME) scored
her first intercollegiate basket.
St. Joe's will take on Occidental College in the Championship game
on Sunday at 5 pm.
