St. Joe’s Climbs Past Mount Ida

STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph's College Women's Basketball team defeated GNAC opponent Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon, 83-63. St. Joe's now has a perfect 3-0 GNAC record and is 10-4 overall. SO Carolyn Freeman (Scarborough, ME) scored a season and game-high 25 points and made 6 three-pointers in the win.

St. Joe's scored 10 of their first 12 points off a 10-10 free throw shooting performance in the first 5 minutes of the contest. SO Meghan Daigle (Grantham, NH) made all six of her FT attempts to help SJC stake a 12-5 lead.

SR Megan Farrell (Abington, MA) grabbed an offensive board and made a jump shot to put the Monks up 23-11 with eight minutes on the clock in the first half. JR Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) hit a jumper to put her team up by 17, 35-18, with three minutes remaining in the half before the Mustangs managed to go on a 10-1 run to come within 8 points of the lead. Freeman nailed a 3-pointer and Farrell sank 2 free throw shots to make the score 40-28 going into the break. The St. Joe's defense pressured the Mustangs into making 17 turnovers in the first half. Defensive wizard Alysn Ludwig grabbed 3 steals in the opening half.

Mount Ida scored 7 quick points early in the second half, highlighted by 4 points and solid play from sophomore forward Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro, MA), to lessen the SJC lead to 6 points with 17 minutes left to play. This was as close as the Mustangs would get to St. Joe's in the contest.

St. Joe's forward Megan Farrell grabbed 9 rebounds and scored 15 points. The Abington, MA native was 4-6 from the field and 7-8 from the charity stripe in the game. SO Allison Miner (Pembroke, NH) grabbed 7 rebounds and scored 9 points and Meghan Daigle added 8 points and 6 boards in the victory. FY Kayla Boston (North Berwick, ME) provided a spark off the bench with 5 rebounds and 3 steals in 12 minutes of play. Ludwig chipped in with 7 rebounds and 7 points off a 5-7 free throw shooting performance.

For the Mustangs, SR Crystal Burgess (Lowell, MA) scored 22 points and Cherie Parisi has 18 points.

SJC shot 75% (27-36) from the free throw line and out-rebounded the Mustangs by a 53-36 margin.

St. Joe's will play a GNAC contest at Emmanuel College on Monday, 1/21 at 1:00 PM.
