PROVIDENCE, RI - Saint Joseph's College was defeated on Saturday
afternoon, 71-62, by GNAC foe Johnson and Wales University and now
holds a 14-7 overall record and a 7-3 conference record. SO
Meghan Daigle (Grantham, NH) notched her first
double-double of the year with a season-high 21 points and 10
rebounds in the loss. Wildcats junior Alyse Ragaglia (West Newbury,
Mass.) scored a game-high 24 points. With the win JWU improves to
9-12 on the season and 7-3 in the GNAC while Saint Joseph's falls
to 14-7 overall, 7-3 in league play.
SJC junior guard Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, Maine)
tallied 10 points, four rebounds and two assists in the setback for
the Monks. FY Kayla Boston (North Berwick, ME)
added 9 points, SO Allison Miner (Pembroke, NH)
netted 8 points and 5 rebounds and SO Carolyn
Freeman (Scarborough, ME) grabbed 10 boards in the losing
bid.
St. Joseph's jumped out to the early lead and held a 16-6 advantage
after a jumper by Daigle with 10:35 left in the
first half. The visiting Monks led 26-18 before JWU responded with
a 9-0 run, capped by a three pointer by Ragaglia to take the 27-26
lead with 3:35 on the clock. The Wildcats would head to the locker
room at halftime with a 33-32 lead.
The Monks opened the second half with a 12-0 run and led 44-33 with
14:35 remaining in the contest after a layup by
Ludwig. Once again, the Wildcats responded and
tied the game at 54-54 on a three pointer by Ragaglia with 7:38
left. The game was tied 58-58 with just over five minutes
remaining. The Wildcats then closed the game with a 13-4 run to
take the 71-62 victory.
The St. Joe's women's basketball team will show their support for
breast cancer research with a Women's Basketball Coaches
Association "Think Pink" event when the Royal Blue plays host to
GNAC opponent Daniel Webster College on Tuesday, 2/12. Tip-off is
scheduled for 5:30 PM.
