STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph's College Women's Basketball
team defeated the Maine Maritime Mariners, 65-52, with a balanced
attack that featured 3 SJC players with 10 points or more. JR
Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) and SO
Carolyn Freeman (Scarborough, ME) each scored 15
points in the victory and led all St. Joe's scorers. SO
Meghan Daigle (Grantham, NH) added 10 points and 9
rebounds in the win. Megan Franklin led all Mariner players
offensively with 11 points.
St. Joe's SO Allison Miner (Pembroke, NH) added 8
points and FY Casey Drake (Lebanon, NH) grabbed 7
rebounds and blocked 2 shots in the winning effort. Ludwig dished
out 5 assists and notched 3 steals and Freeman posted 9 rebounds to
help guide SJC to victory.
St. Joe's record improves to 5-3 for the season, the Mariners are
now 5-3 as well.
After leading by 3 points, 16-13, with nine minutes to play, St.
Joe's managed to score 13 unanswered points to take a 29-13 lead.
Five different players scored for St. Joe's during the five minute
span. SJC held the lead, 34-21, going into halftime.
The Mariners offense was unable to gain momentum in the second
half. The eight point deficit with 8:04 remaining after Kailyn
Leeman hit a jumpshot was the closest Maine Maritime would come to
catching St. Joe's.
The SJC Women shot 46.4% (26-56) from the floor and out-rebounded
the Mariners by a wide margin, 48-29.
St. Joe's will travel to Presque Isle on 12/15 to compete in the
two-day Star City Tournament hosted by UMPI. The SJC women will
play UM-Fort Kent on Saturday, 12/15 @ 1:00 PM.
