STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College hosted Newbury College in
non-conference action on Tuesday night and defeated the Nighthawks,
101-64. St. Joe's featured four players with double-digit point
totals and was led offensively by SO Carolyn
Freeman (Scarborough, ME), who scored 23 points and also
grabbed 11 boards in the win. Sophomore guard Rashawna Wynn
(Baltimore, MD) led Newbury College with 20 points. Saint Joseph's
College improves to 7-3 while the Nighthawks fall to 1-9 on the
season.
The last time the St. Joe's Women's Basketball team reached the
century mark was February 23rd, 1995 when they defeated U-Maine
Farmington 103-80 in a Maine Athletic Conference tournament
game.
St. Joe's senior captain Megan Farrell (Abington,
MA) nearly attained a double-double as she came off the bench to
score 16 points, shooting 6-8 from the floor, and grabbed 9
rebounds. SO Meghan Daigle (Grantham, NH) and FY
Erin Cartwright (Acton, MA) each scored 14 points
in the SJC win. Daigle missed only one shot the entire game as she
made 6-7 field goal attempts and was 2-2 from the charity stripe.
FY Sarah Fournier (Jay, ME) provided a spark off
the bench and dished out seven assists in the game.
St. Joe's out-rebounded the Nighthawks, 57-30, and shot 53.8% from
the floor in the game.
The SJC Women host the University of New England Nor'easters in a
non-conference game on Thursday, 1/12. Game time is 5:30 PM.
