STANDISH, ME - After trailing by eight points at the break St.
Joe's mounted a comeback bid by shooting 47% from the floor and
outscoring the Norwich University Cadets, 35-32 in the second half.
JR Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) led the Royal Blue
with 14 points and 9 rebounds in the loss. St. Joe's record stands
at 15-8 overall and 8-4 in GNAC play. Norwich improves 9-13 overall
and 8-3 in GNAC contests.
SJC struck first when FY Erin Cartwright (Acton,
MA) made a jumper on the team's first possession of the game.
Norwich followed by scoring on 5 of the team's first 7 trips
downcourt and held a 10-2 lead six minutes into the game.
The Norwich shooters made 48% of their shots in the
opening half to stake a 30-22 lead going into the break.
Saint Joseph's cut the Cadets lead to three points after
Cartwright hit a jumpshot with four minutes
remaining in the second half, but Norwich converted 9 of 10 free
throw attempts in the remaining minutes to keep the St. Joe's
offense at bay and come away with the victory.
SO Meghan Daigle (Grantham, NH) tallied 12 points
and 5 rebounds and Erin Cartwright added 9 points
and 2 steals in the SJC loss. FY Casey Drake (Lebanon, NH) netted 7
points in the afternoon contest.
For the Cadets, junior guard Kayleigh Shappy (Burlington, VT) led
the way with 14 points and was a perfect 8-8 from the charity
stripe in the game. Sophomore forward Jess Jaggars (Vergennes, VT)
tallied a double-double in the victory with 11 points and 12
boards.
St. Joe's will play their final reguar season game on Saturday,
2/23 when they play host to conference counterpart Rivier College
for a 1:00 PM tip-off. Norwich is slated to play host to GNAC foe
Rivier College on Thursday, 2/21 at 7:00 PM.
