Rivier Defeats Saint Joseph's, 81-58

STANDISH, ME - GNAC opponent Rivier College upended Saint Joseph's College, 81-58, in the regular season finale. St. Joe's completes the regular season docket 15-9 overall, 8-5 GNAC. FY Sarah Fournier (Jay, ME) made four 3-pointers and scored 12 points in the SJC loss. Rivier improves to 7-6 in GNAC play and 13-12 overall. Sophomore guard Blair Carpenter (Meredith, NH) scored 27 points and made seven 3-pointers to lead the Raiders.

Seniors Marie Lint (Orono, ME), Megan Farrell (Abington, MA) and manager Ashley Foscaldo were honored in a Senior Day ceremony before the game as the trio was participating in their final regular season home contest.

Rivier used a 21-4 run to conclude the first half and after Blair Carpenter hit a three-pointer with one second remaining the Raiders held a 37-20 lead going into the break.

St. Joe's posted respectable shooting percentages in the second stanza, but the women were unable to keep up with the Raiders' long distance 77% (7-9) conversion rate after recess.

Fournier paced twelve different SJC scorers with her career-high 12 points in the contest. JR Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) tallied 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals and FY Casey Drake (Lebanon, NH) grabbed 4 steals in the final regular season game.

For Rivier, SO Jessica Mellen (Rockland, MA) added 16 points and 12 rebounds and JR Peggy Dalton (Amherst, NH) tallied 12 points and 13 boards.

Saint Joseph's College has earned the #6 seed in the conference playoffs in the team's first year in the GNAC and will travel to Northfield, VT on Tuesday February 26th to face off against #3 seed Norwich University (11-13, 10-3 GNAC) for a 7:00 PM tip-off.

Rivier College earned the #7 seed and will play at #2 Suffolk University on February 26th at 7:00 PM.
