STANDISH, ME - St. Joe's hosted non-conference opponent
University of New England on Thursday evening and lost, 77-62.
Nor'easters guard Alli Gamache (Dudley, MA) made 4 of 9 three-point
attempts and 7 of 12 shots overall to lead all scorers with 20
points in the game. SO Carolyn Freeman
(Scarborough, ME) scored 14 points for St. Joe's in the losing
effort. UNE improves to 6-5 with the win while SJC falls to 7-4 on
the season.
St. Joe's outscored the Nor'easters 44-39 in the second half, led
by Freeman's 11 second-half points, but the first
half deficit was too much to overcome as UNE made the most of their
opportunities to take a 38-18 lead into halftime. SJC lowered the
Nor'easter lead to eight points, 49-41, at 13:38 after FY
Kayla Boston (North Berwick, ME) hit a
three-pointer, but UNE fought back to extend their lead to
double-digits and held at least a 10-point advantage for the
remainder of the game.
For St. Joe's, Freeman made all six of her free
throw attempts to help account for her 14 points and added 8
rebounds and 2 steals. SO Allison
Miner (Pembroke, NH) added 11 points, nine in the
second half, and JR Alysn Ludwig
(Waldoboro, ME) scored 10 points in the loss. SO Meghan
Daigle (Grantham, NH) had 8 rebounds.
Nor'easters guard Carrie Bunnell (Barnet, VT) scored 14 points and
grabbed 7 boards in the game and guard Marissa Hesketh (Tolland,
CT) chipped in with 10 points.
Saint Joseph's College will play their conference opener on
Saturday, 1/12, when they host GNAC opponent Saint Joseph College
(CT). Game time is 1:00 PM.
