Colby Defeats St. Joe's in Invitational Title Game, 83-63

WATERVILLE, ME - Colby College (2-0) defeated Saint Joseph's (2-1), 83-63, in the Colby Invitational title game on Saturday afternoon at Wadsworth Gymnasium. Carolyn Freeman '10 (Scarborough, ME/McAuley) led the Lady Monks with 11 points in the loss. SJC forward Meghan Daigle '10 (Grantham, NH) was named to the All-Tournament Team for her play in the team's two tourney contests.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Julianne Kowalski '11 (Montville, NJ) had game-highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds to help lead the Mules to victory. Alison Cappelloni '10 (Sudbury, MA) earned all-tournament team honors with 17 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. The Mules had five players in double figures and had 23 assists on their 32 field goals.

Kowalski had 11 points and eight rebounds in the first half to spark Colby to a 39-28 lead at intermission. With the score 39-30, the Mules went on a 17-2 run to pull away for good.

For St. Joe's, Ashley Geel '12 (St. George, ME) was 6-6 from the free-throw line and netted 10 points with eight boards and four blocks while Erin Cartwright '11 (Acton, MA) and Kayla Boston '11 (North Berwick, ME) both chipped in with seven points. Alysn Ludwig '09 (Waldoboro, ME) and Casey Drake '11 (Lebanon, NH) each tallied six points and Allison Miner '10 (Pembroke, NH) had five rebounds in the loss.

Saint Joseph's will travel to Wenham, MA on Tuesday, November 25th to play the Gordon College Scots at 5:00 PM. Colby will travel to New Jersey to take on William Patterson University on November 29th at 3:00 PM.
