McDevitt '12 (Cumberland, ME) sank four
three-pointers and scored 16 to help Saint Joseph's (11-10, 4-4
GNAC) get past GNAC foe Pine Manor College (2-16, 0-7) on Wednesday
evening. Meghan Daigle '10
(Grantham, NH) scored 13 points and Allison
Miner '10 (Pembroke, NH) added 12 in the victory.
Enjolee Phillips ‘11 (Hartford, CT) scored a game-high 17
points for Pine Manor.
Saint Joseph's was ahead 10-1 after Alysn
Ludwig ‘09 (Waldoboro, ME) made a layup 5:40
into the contest and was up by a game-high 19 points, 26-7, seven
minutes later after a Daigle basket.
The Gators managed to outscore the Lady Monks 18-8 for the
remainder of the half and, after a steal and breakaway layup by
Phillips, trailed by nine, 34-25, going into the break.
Kayla Boston ‘11 (North
Berwick, ME) corralled a loose ball and made a layup to put St.
Joe's up 40-27 2:39 into the second stanza, but the Gators followed
with a 14-2 run and trailed by just one point, 42-41, with 11:33 to
play. PMC forward Stacie Beauford ‘12 (Baltimore, MD) netted
six points during the surge by the hosts.
A Phillips 19-footer three minutes later tied the contest for the
first time since the opening tipoff, but Ashley
Geel ‘12 (St. George, ME) answered with a
three-pointer to retake the lead less than a minute later.
The Gators kept it a two-possession game for the following four
minutes before capturing their first, and as it turned out, only
lead of the contest when Amanda Dennis ‘09 (Haverhill, MA)
hit a jumper to give the home team a 52-51 edge with 4:08 left.
St. Joe's regained the lead when Daigle made a
pair of free throws on the next SJC possession and
McDevitt drilled her fourth trey of the night 12
seconds later to lift her team to a 56-52 advantage with 3:29
remaining in regulation.
Down the stretch, Daigle made all four of her
attempts from the line and Miner hit a jumper.
Pine Manor stayed in it until the end and trailed 62-59 after
Phillips hit a shot from downtown on the final Gators possession
with six seconds left.
St. Joe's held a 39-32 advantage on the glass and produced 17
assists on 23 baskets in the victory. Pine Manor outshot the Lady
Monks 44.8% to 37.1% from the field, but went just 6-11 from the
charity stripe in the loss.
Meghan Daigle's streak of 28
consecutive free throws made ended when she missed her first
attempt of the game at the 11:23 mark of the second half. She
followed by making good on her next seven trips to the line to
start a new streak.
For St. Joe's, Geel chipped in with six points and
five boards, Ludwig had six assists and
Boston grabbed four steals.
For Pine Manor, Paulette Wright ‘12 (Baltimore, MD) scored 15
points and Beauford netted 13 points.
Saint Joseph's will travel to West Hartford, CT on Saturday,
February 7th to take on GNAC rival Saint Joseph College in a 1:00
PM contest, while Pine Manor will play at Mount Ida on Saturday at
1:00 PM.
