STANDISH, ME - Four Saint Joseph's women's
basketball players have received 2009 team awards.
Meghan Daigle '10 (Grantham, NH)
is the Most Valuable Player, Ashley
Geel '12 (St. George, ME) has been named as the
Most Improved Player, the Defensive Player of the Year is
Kayla Boston '11 (North Berwick,
ME) and Megan McDevitt '12
(Cumberland, ME) has been recognized for having the Most Team
Spirit.
Daigle led all Lady Monks scorers with 347 points
and 13.9 points per game in 2009. The Second Team All-Conference
honoree shot 80.7% (109-135) from the charity stripe to lead Saint
Joseph's and rank fourth in the GNAC and posted team-high point
totals in 13 games with a pair of double-double efforts in
2009.
Geel paced the Lady Monks with 43 blocks and
ranked third on the team in both points per game (8.0) and points
(201) in her rookie campaign. She was listed on the Maine Women's
Basketball Coaches Association Weekly Honor Roll five times and the
GNAC Honor Roll on one occasion during the season.
Boston played tenacious defense for the 13-13 St.
Joe's squad, collecting 24 steals and 43 boards with six
blocks.
McDevitt takes the Most Team Spirit Award as one
of the Lady Monks' most vocal players. The freshman guard averaged
5.3 PPG and ranked second on the team with 24 three-pointers made
in 2009.
The 2009 Saint Joseph's women's basketball team posted a 13-13
overall record and played to a 6-6 tilt in conference play. The
Lady Monks made their second appearance in the GNAC Tournament, in
as many years as a league member, as the #8 seed in 2009.
