LEWISTON, ME - Bates College (9-8) defeated Saint Joseph's (7-9, 1-2 GNAC), 76-50, in a non-conference women's basketball contest on Wednesday night. Allie Parent '12 (Camden, ME) led the Monks with 13 points and added 6 boards and 3 steals in the loss.

Carolyn Freeman '10 (Scarborough, ME/McAuley) added 12 points off a 7-7 effort from the free-throw line and Meghan Daigle '10 (Grantham, NH) scored 10 with a team-high 8 caroms. Since defeating nationally-ranked Emmanuel College on January 7th, the Monks have lost four straight games, three by five points or less.

For Bates, Lauren Yanofsky scored 13 points with nine rebounds and five blocked shots, while Allie Beaulieu and Christine McCall added 12 points apiece. Jessie Igoe notched a season-high 10 points for the hosts.

Leading 34-30 at the half, Bates opened up the second period with a 14-6 run to seize control of the game at 54-42 with 10:53 left in the game. St. Joe's shot just 24.1% (7-29) in the second stanza, including 0-5 from beyond the arc.

Bates outscored St. Joe's 20-10 over the final 8:36 of the game to break the game open. The Monks had been hanging in the game at around a 12-point deficit for much of the half, closing the gap to 56-46 with 8:36 left.

Both teams led by no more than five points in the first half, and the Bobcats outscored the Monks 14-10 down the stretch over the final 8:18 to post a 34-30 lead at intermission. The Bobcats shot 4-for-7 behind the arc during the period, compared to 1-for-7 for St. Joe's. Freeman led the Monks with eight points in the period, while Yanofsky led the Bobcats with seven.

St. Joe's shot 30.4% (17-56) overall, 8.3% (1-12) from three-point range, and 78.9% (15-19) from the line while Bates shot 45.9% (28-61) from the floor, 57.1% (8-14) from beyond the arc and 12-18 (66.7%) from the charity stripe. The Bobcats held a 42-34 advantage on the glass and recorded 22 assists on 28 baskets.

The Monks' three-point shooting effort has hit a drought of late, as tonight's contest marked the team's second-consecutive 1-12 performance from three-point distance. St. Joe's has shot just 13.5% (5-37) from three-point range in the last three games.

Bates next hosts Bowdoin Friday at 6:00 PM in a NESCAC matchup, while St. Joe's plays at Simmons College on Saturday in a GNAC contest slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
