Monks' Hoopsters Participate in Pink Zone Event

STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph's College Men's and Women's Basketball teams participated in a nationwide effort last week in order to increase breast cancer awareness and raise funds for the worthy cause.

The teams and cheerleaders sported pink tee-shirts as part of the WBCA Pink Zone® initiative when the SJC men's team hosted Mount Ida College on Saturday, February 20th. All gate proceeds, as well as fan donations and tee-shirt sales, will be donated to the Maine Cancer Society.

The SJC women were originally slated to host the festivities, as has been done the last two seasons, when they played Mount Ida as part of a GNAC twin bill on Saturday. However, when the Mount Ida women's team cancelled the remainder of its season earlier this month, including the Saturday's contest against St. Joe's, the men's program stepped up to participate in the cause.

Saint Joseph's is one of over 1,600 basketball programs and organizations across the nation to have participated in the 2010 WBCA "Pink Zone" activities.
