Webber International Defeats Saint Joseph's, 62-53

BABSON PARK, FL - Webber International University (4-6) bested Saint Joseph's College (5-5), 62-53, in a non-conference women's basketball contest in the Holiday Inn Express Invitational on Saturday evening. Junior Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) led the Monks with 11 points in the loss.

The Monks trailed 31-30 at halftime and faced a manageable 46-42 deficit after junior Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) made a pair of free throws with 9:54 remaining in the contest, but the host-Warriors posted a 9-2 surge over the following three minutes and held a lead of at least seven points for the rest of the game.

Saint Joseph's fell victim to turnovers and a lackluster free throw shooting performance in the loss. Webber tallied 17 steals and netted 29 points off 30 SJC turnovers and seven different St. Joe's players combined to make just eight of 20 free throw bids on the evening.

Freshman center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) added seven points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots while Shannon McFayden (Ipswich, Mass.) and Sarah Assante (Standish, Maine) left the bench to contribute nine and seven points, respectively, in the losing effort.

After several days of practice and sightseeing in the Sunshine State, Saint Joseph's returns to Standish on Wednesday when the team plays host to Lyndon State College in a 6:00 PM tip-off.
