Suffolk Stumps Saint Joseph's, 60-49

BOSTON, MA – Suffolk University (11-4, 3-0 GNAC) defeated Saint Joseph's College (8-2, 2-2 GNAC), 60-49, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Thursday evening. Freshman center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) led the Monks with 12 points in the setback.

The first half featured four tie scores and five lead changes with the Rams taking the final swing with a 6-2 surge in the final minutes en route to securing a 24-22 halftime edge. Suffolk kicked off the second stanza on an 11-2 run; an outburst the Monks would not overcome as the hosts proceeded to own a double-digit lead for the final 11 minutes of the contest.

For Saint Joseph's, senior Danyelle Shufelt (Sutton, Vt.) scored 11 points, junior Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) added six points and six rebounds, junior Mackenzie Dufour (Augusta, Maine) chipped in four points and five caroms, and junior Abby Young (North Yarmouth, Maine) contributed seven boards and four points in a losing effort.

For Suffolk, sophomore Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, junior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) collected her third double-double in as many conference games with 19 points and 12 boards and senior Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) scored all 13 of her points in the second half.

Overall, Saint Joseph's shot 29.7% (19-64) from the field, 11.1% (1-9) from three-point range, and 58.8% (10-17) from the free throw ling. Suffolk shot 35.9% (23-64) from the floor, 33.3% (3-9) from downtown, and 57.9% (11-19) from the charity stripe on the evening.

With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 6-5 in the history of the series with Suffolk University.

Up next, Saint Joseph's hosts Anna Maria College at 1:00 PM on Saturday while Suffolk travels to Norwich University for a 5:30 PM tip-off on Monday.
