Cahill & Moore Garner GNAC Yearly Honors

STANDISH, ME - The GNAC Women's Basketball postseason honors have been announced and a pair of Saint Joseph's College players have garnered major awards for their play during the 2012-13 campaign.

Freshman center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Rookie of the Year and junior forward Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) has received GNAC Defensive Player of the Year accolades.

Cahill, just the second player - Karen Sandora '88 being the other (1985) - in the program's illustrious history to earn conference rookie of the year honors, led the Monks in scoring (13.3 PPG), rebounding (8.0 RPG), blocked shots (60) and field goals made (146) as a rookie. Also a 2013 Second Team All-GNAC selection, Cahill paced all GNAC players in double-doubles (11) and blocks per game (2.2 BPG), ranked fifth in the conference in field goal percentage (47.4%), and finished the season 10th in the conference in rebounding.

Cahill, a seven-time GNAC Rookie of the Week honoree, is the first freshman in the 36-year history of the Saint Joseph's women's basketball program to lead the team in both scoring and rebounding as a rookie. Also, her rejections total ranks second all-time behind only Mary Lou Kimball '89, who swatted 62 shots during her senior season.

Moore claims the well-deserved defensive honor after posting a productive all-around effort as a junior. An athletic forward who also excels for the SJC softball team, the second-year starter averaged 10.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game and led the GNAC with a 51.6% (130-252) success rate from the field, all while defending the opponent's top post player, this winter.

Saint Joseph's went 16-11 overall and 9-3 in conference play under the watch of 20th-year Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83 during the 2012-13 campaign. The Monks earned the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament and defeated #6 Johnson & Wales University before suffering a season-ending loss at the hands of second-seeded Suffolk University on February 21st.
