Saint Joseph’s Topples Mount Ida, 77-39

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's (19-5, 9-1 GNAC) routed Mount Ida College (3-21, 0-10 GNAC), 77-39, in a GNAC women's basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Wednesday night. Sophomore center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) poured in 22 points while shooting 8-11 from the field in the triumph.

The Monks, who led wire to wire and carried a 39-25 cushion into intermission, put the game completely out of reach with a 13-0 run that ended with the hosts owning a 60-29 advantage with 9:46 left to play. Saint Joseph's went on to record the largest lead of the evening – 40 points – when freshman guard Danica Gleason (South Portland, Maine) converted a layup just over five minutes later.

Nine different players found the scoresheet for the Monks in the victory, including senior forward Abby Young (North Yarmouth, Maine), who tallied 16 points and six rebounds, and Gleason, who registered 14 points, eight boards and three assists on the evening. Senior guard Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) put up nine points, eight caroms, six assists and three steals, junior guard Sarah Assante (Standish, Maine) added five points, three assists and five steals and senior point guard Mackenzie Dufour (Augusta, Maine) contributed four points, three rebounds, three dimes and five steals versus the Mustangs.

For Mount Ida, freshman post player Angelique Martinez (Taunton, Mass.) notched a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, senior guard Abbey Fedigan (New Fairfield, Conn.) added 11 points and junior forward Jenn Rafuse (Brockton, Mass.) chipped in with four points, six rebounds and a pair of dimes in the losing bid.

Both teams are set to close out the regular season with conference contests on Saturday, when Saint Joseph's travels to Lasell College and Mount Ida hosts Simmons College. Both contests are set to tip off at 1:00 PM.
