Cahill & McNamara Collect Weekly Accolades

STANDISH, Maine – Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) weekly awards have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College players have earned honors.

Freshman guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) has been named as the GNAC Rookie of the Week for the third-consecutive reporting period and has also claimed MWBCA honor roll mention while senior center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) has been listed on the GNAC and MWBCA honor rolls.

McNamara averaged 14.0 points, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in a pair of games in the Colby College Invitational Tournament over the weekend. The freshman guard netted 16 versus Maine-Fort Kent on Saturday and shot 46.2% (6-13) from three-point range during the two contests.

Cahill averaged 23.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots per game in a 1-1 week for the Monks. The senior center posted a pair of double-doubles at Colby College, including a 25-point, 13-rebound performance while shooting 68.8% *11-16) from the field in a narrow loss to the Mules on Sunday.

Through eight games for the 6-2 Monks, McNamara is averaging 15.4 points, 3.1 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 2.0 steals per contest and leads the team in both three pointers made (23) and three-point shooting percentage (.511).

Cahill currently paces the Monks in scoring (15.9 PPG), rebounding (8.5 RPG), field goals made (48) and attempted (96), shooting percentage (.500), free throws made (31) and attempted (39), free throw percentage (.816) and blocked shots (21). The senior captain eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau last winter and is currently tied for seventh – with Sharon Rines '94 – with 1,338 career points.

Saint Joseph's College returns to the court with a 5:30 PM non-conference contest at Bates College on Thursday.
