Cahill Named NEWBA Player, MWBCA Co-Player of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – Weekly awards for the reporting period ending December 13th have been released and Saint Joseph's College senior Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) has earned a trio of accolades.

The senior center has collected New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week and Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Co-Player of the Week honors and also has been listed on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honor roll.

Cahill averaged 21.3 points and 14.3 rebounds while shooting 67.4% (29-43) from the floor in a 2-1 week for Saint Joseph's. The senior captain tallied 25 points and 13 boards in a two-point loss to Colby on Sunday and netted 27 points with a career-high 16 rebounds and three blocks while making 13 of 16 attempts from the field in a victory over Bates College on Thursday. Cahill added 12 points and 14 boards while playing just 24 minutes in a blowout triumph over Fisher College on Saturday.     

Cahill is the only Saint Joseph's player to earn NEWBA Player of the Week honors in the last 12 seasons while the MWBCA honor is her second of the season and 10th of her collegiate career. She shares the MWBCA honor with Bowdoin College senior Shannon Brady (Scituate, Mass.), who averaged 21 points and seven rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Polar Bears.

Through 10 contests for the 8-2 Monks, Cahill is averaging 16.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 53.7% (66-123) from the floor and 79.1% (34-43) from the free throw line. She currently leads the GNAC in field goal percentage, defensive rebounds (66) and blocks, ranks second in points (166) and field goals made, fourth in rebounds (98) and scoring average, and sixth in free throws made and rebounding average.

In 91 career games, Cahill has tallied 1,377 points, 736 rebounds, 183 blocked shots, 103 assists and 88 steals. She is currently the Monks' all-time blocks per game leader with 2.0 swats per contest and ranks second in blocked shots, fifth in free throws made (285), sixth in free throws attempted (414) and rebounds and seventh in points, scoring average (15.1), field goals made (546) and attempted (1158), and rebounding average (8.1).

Saint Joseph's is off until Saturday, January 2nd when the team travels to Regis College for a 2:00 PM non-conference contest.
