STANDISH, Maine – Weekly honors have been released and Saint Joseph's College junior guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) has been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Corvias Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
The junior sharpshooter has also garnered New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) and Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Weekly Honor Roll mention.
McNamara averaged 22.5 points, 5.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. She netted 28 points (7-16 FG) with the help of an 11-of-11 effort at the free-throw line in a 77-66 road victory over the NESCAC's Bates on Tuesday and followed up with 17 points and eight assists in a lopsided win at Norwich on Saturday. For the week, she shot 43.3% (13-30 FG, 7-16 3PT, 12-13 FT) overall.
For McNamara, a two-time First Team All-GNAC selection and 2017 GNAC Player of the Year honoree, the conference player of the week accolade is a career-first. As a freshman, she was chosen as the GNAC Rookie of the Week on seven occasions en route to claiming GNAC Rookie of the Year honors.
She has been listed on the NEWBA Weekly Honor Roll five times in her career.
Through 11 games for the 10-1 Monks, McNamara is averaging 17.8 points, 5.2 assists, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. She leads the team in scoring and assists as well as field goals made (64) and attempted (159), three-pointers made (27) and attempted (77), free throws made (41) and attempted (48), FT percentage (85.4%), and blocked shots (5).
McNamara also ranks second in the conference in three-pointers made and assists and third in points (196) and free throw percentage.
Saint Joseph's will host GNAC-rival Johnson & Wales University tonight at 5:00 PM.
