Saint Joseph’s Cruises Past Simmons, 62-38

BOSTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (12-1, 5-0 GNAC) toppled Simmons College (1-8, 1-3 GNAC), 62-38, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Thursday night. The Monks have now won 11-consecutive games.

FIRST GLANCE:

Junior guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) scored 24 points with four assists and six steals and junior guard Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) added 10 points and six rebounds to help the Monks remain undefeated in conference play.

THE REST OF THE STORY:

Leading 21-11 after the first quarter, the Monks put the game out of reach in the second stanza, outscoring the Sharks by a 17-6 margin en route to owning a 38-17 cushion heading into intermission.

St. Joe's held a game-high 27-point (52-25) advantage when McNamara connected on a three-pointer with 1:24 remaining in the third quarter.

STAT OF THE GAME:

Saint Joseph's scored 26 points off 28 Simmons turnovers on the evening.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • McNamara was 4-9 from three-point distance and 4-4 from the FT line and surpassed the 1,100 career-point mark in the victory
  • Junior forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.) pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and netted nine points in 25 minutes
  • Senior forward Regan McFerran (Albany, N.Y.) contributed five points and four rebounds

LEADERS – SIMMONS:

  • Senior forward Presley Silva (Wilmington, Mass.) tallied 11 points, eight rebounds, three steals, three blocks, and a pair of assists
  • Junior forward Molly Philips (Cranston, R.I.) came off the bench to contribute seven points and four rebounds

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's is now 11-2 in the history of the series with Simmons College and has now defeated the Sharks in nine-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2009-10 season.
