STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College senior forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.) became the 24th member of the Monks' 1000-Point Club in a 93-71 victory over Bates College at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday.

Benway entered Saturday's contest needing 21 points to reach the milestone and reached the mark with a layup at the 7:37 mark of the fourth quarter. Senior guard Hannah Marks (Waldoboro, Maine) was credited with the assist.

Following the play, Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83 signaled for a timeout and the Saint Joseph's scorer's table acknowledged the achievement with a brief public address announcement.

She is the first SJC women's basketball player to reach the four-digit mark since classmate Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) netted her 1,000th point on December 9th, 2017. Benway and McNamara are just the fourth pair of classmates – and first since Sue Picard '02 and Stacy Gelinas '02 – among the 24 players who have scored 1,000 or more points in the 42-year history of the SJC women's basketball program.

Benway finished the game with 24 points on 11-17 shooting from the floor with 12 rebounds to notch the 17th double-double of her career.

In 90 career games – including 81 starts – Benway has scored 1,003 points with 645 rebounds, 86 assists, 71 steals, and 21 blocked shots. She is a 52.1% (428-821) career shooter from the field with a 54.6% (147-269) rate from the free-throw line. As of November 5th, she ranks third in program history in field goal percentage, 10th in rebounding average (7.2 RPG), and 12th in rebounds.

Benway currently leads the team in FG% (54.8%, 34-62) and rebounding (10.7 RPG) and is second on the squad in scoring average (13.5 PPG).

McNamara is the 19th player to join the 1,000-Point Club during McDevitt's 26-year tenure at Saint Joseph's and one of just six players to reach the milestone since 2004.
