Stapelfeld Named MWBCA Co-Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – The Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) weekly accolades have been released and Saint Joseph's College freshman guard Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) has been selected as the MWBCA Co-Rookie of the Week.

Stapelfeld averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting 47.6% (10-21) from the floor and 83.3% (5-6) from the FT line in a pair of GNAC road wins last week. The freshman guard netted 12 points with six boards and two assists in a 71-53 win at Norwich on Wednesday and added 14 points and four caroms in a close 65-60 victory at University of Saint Joseph on Saturday.

The SJC freshman guard shares the weekly honor with Southern Maine freshman Vanessa Vaughan, who averaged 13.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists per game in contests versus Bowdoin, Eastern Connecticut, and Western Connecticut last week.

Through 15 games this season, Stapelfeld is averaging 8.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 45.0% (45-100) from the field, 35.1% (13-37) from three-point distance, and 74.1% (20-27) from the free throw line. She currently ranks third on the team in FG% and free-throws made, fourth in assists average, and fifth in scoring average, rebounding, and three-pointers made.

Saint Joseph's (12-3, 7-0 GNAC) will host Johnson & Wales University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
