2005 Season Preview

To say the field hockey team is young this season would be an understatement. After going through a rebuilding year with just one senior on the '04 roster and a first-year goalie, the team finds itself with no seniors and another first-year goalie this season.

The roster is comprised of four juniors, five sophomores and twelve freshmen, due largely to the recruiting efforts of former Coach Jennell Carter.

Coach Rupert Lewis (1st year) will look to his tri-captains to take charge of the squad. Sophomore forward Monique Crawford (Peru, ME) had seven points (3 goals, 1 assist) while sophomore midfielder Darcey Ward (Dresden, ME) led the team in shots (31) last season. Junior Kristine Benere (Ayer, MA) will key the defense.

Junior Sarah Kay (Lewiston, ME), second on the team with eight points (3 goals, 2 assists) last season, returns to the front line.

Three first-year students who should challenge for starting roles are forward Kelly Emerson (Vassalboro, ME), defense Lauren Snow (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) and midfielder Amanda MacPheters (Dover-Foxcroft, ME).

First-year goalkeeper Ellen Gagne (Northborough, MA) shows lots of potential and has made great strides adjusting to the college game.
