STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (4-3, 4-0 GNAC) raced past Anna Maria College (2-6, 2-3 GNAC), 5-1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a scoreless first quarter, the Monks kicked off the second stanza with a goal just 1:15 into the frame when sophomore Kienna Haley (Scarborough, Maine) converted a penalty stroke for her second tally of the season. Sophomore Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) hit pay dirt on a fast break at the 20:52 mark to make it a 2-0 game and the hosts doubled their cushion with goals from junior Abbie Jacques (Mount Vernon, Maine) and Waryas in the 32nd and 38th minutes, respectively.

The AMCATS found the board at the 40:56 mark when grad Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, Mass.) clanged a shot off the post and the rebound fell to freshman Morgan Beane (Blackstone, Mass.), who slammed home her first collegiate goal to cut the SJC lead to 4-1.

Applying most of the offensive pressure, Saint Joseph's struck again for the game's final goal at the 47:41 mark when first-year Richelle Girard (Claremont, N.H.) netted her first career tally off a Jacques penalty corner insert play.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held sizeable leads in shots (20-4), shots on goal (14-3), and penalty corners (14-3) in the decisive victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Kassidy Collins (Pittston, Maine) made a pair of saves in the triumph while the AMCATS split the game in goal, with freshman Carly Dedrick (Manchester, N.H.) taking the loss after making three saves and allowing as many goals in 30 minutes. Graduate Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, Mass.) yielded a pair of goals and make five stops in 30 minutes between the posts.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
