Monks Rally Past Simmons in Double Overtime

Boston, MA - First-year Jillian Kimball (Albany Township, ME) scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to lead the Saint Joseph's College field hockey team to their first win of the season, a 3-2 double-overtime victory over Simmons College.

Simmons struck first as Kristen Perkins scored off a deflection at 26:36. Junior Darcy Ward (Dresden, ME) evened the score at 33:43 off a pass from senior Kristine Benere (Ayer, MA) and gave the Monks a 2-1 lead after netting a penalty stroke in the 65th minute.

The Sharks knotted the score with less than 30 seconds to play in regulation on a shot from the top of the circle by Elizabeth Hennigan and carried the momentum into the first over time period out-shooting the Monks 5-1.

First-year goalkeeper Karrie Sirois (Thomaston, ME) forced a second overtime period after making two key saves in the period and finished with 6 saves.

Kimball drilled her game-winner off a centering pass from first year Julie Ostrowski Albany, NY) to help the Monks improve to 1-3 on the season while the Sharks drop to 0-5.

The St. Joe's squad plays at Castleton State (VT) on September 23 at 2 PM.
